Natural Soaps And Women And Children With Albinism In Uganda
This post details the progress and achievements of an organization working to empower and support women affected by Albinism in Uganda and Tanzania. They have delivered a large order to a fair trade retailer, purchased land to build a soap factory and eco-tourism cottages, and provided community outreach and training.
Highlights… 🎊🎉
Delivering on our first big order with pioneering fair trade retailer, Traidcraft, in the UK
Purchased land to build a future soap factory and eco-tourism cottages in partnership with 7 Wandering Backpacks
Provided community outreach to numerous families affected by Albinism across Uganda and hosted our annual International Albinism Awareness Day event all through funding received from EartHeart – Fondazione Cariello Corbino – ETS. Alberto also visited Uganda
Conducted a soapmaking training with 25 women affected by Albinism on Ukerewe Island in Tanzania in collaboration with Inside The Same and Standing Voice
Entered into a MOU with Extend a Life Initiative Uganda – Eli-Ug to provide education and training to rural women affected by Albinism
Received a special invite from Buganda Kingdom to showcase our products
We joined up with ONE TRIBE to have exposure through their ‘African Voices’ campaign at COP27 in Egypt
Saw business revenues grow by 25%. Some of our members have purchased their own land. Everyone all got pay raises. All of the women have their own bank account. A couple of the women have been promoted into new leadership roles.
All of the children have successfully gone back to school post covid lockdown and are performing very well with good grades. We saw several members of our community graduate with university diplomas and are now pursuing professional careers.
Through various donations, all our children now have prescription sunglasses, we get support from Sunsense UK with regular donations of ultra-protection sunscreen, and we have assisted various members of the community with skin cancer surgeries
We are currently supplying around 20 luxury hotels and retailers across Uganda
And I was lucky to go to Uganda twice last year to spend time with all of them and do vital work together
It has been a year also marked with much inflation and rising costs of all commodities across Uganda. We rolled out of covid lockdown to then be hit with one from Ebola. We have also sadly lost members of the community to skin cancer. But still we persist! 2023 we will continue pushing to change the image for those affected by Albinism, creating more jobs and giving these women self reliance and the respect they deserve. Thank all of you for the continued support and loving them so! 💗💗💗
