The Utopian Dandelion Project

Is The Proof That Profit And Humanity Can Still Go Hand In Hand

By offering 100% natural products, the company pays fair prices to producers, supports local communities, and minimizes environmental impact while creating social value alongside economic value. Join the gentle, peaceful revolution and help contribute to a better world.

The Utopian Dandelion Project

Why Us?

The dandelion, symbol of our project, is a small perennial flower, which grows even in difficult conditions. To survive it has developed the ability to release its seeds with a small tuft of white hair acting as a parachute, taking them very far.

In these few words, the simplicity and adaptability of the dandelion, lies the substance and mission of our project.

We want to show that profit, social justice, equity and respect for the environment are not in antithesis, but that they can and should coexist, giving rise to life lasting projects that have nothing to do with utopia and much to do with the reality of a world in need to review their development model.

There’s nothing average in what we do: this is not just about buying and selling, it’s about caring for each other and the planet. It’s a gentle, peaceful act of revolution, and you can be a part of it.

By purchasing (for instance) a bar of 100% natural soap, not only you will treat yourself, your friends and your family but also, with the same price:

1)

You allow a community of producers in a developing country to finally get the price they have the right to and they have asked for, with no bargain, a price that will allow them to sustain their business and to live a decent life in their communities.

As you can read in the our transparent price label, we devote the 50% to the producers, that is a way higher then the unjust mainstream free trade, and also higher than the fair trade average.

2)

You donate part of the profits to our social partner, the Fondazione Cariello Corbino, which send it all to the organizations it supports , including our supplier communities.

3)

You empower us to find more reliable partners, fine, skilled artisans, so we can expand the range of products and the number of communities to support.

That’s why us! because together we can contribute to the world sustainability and social justice. Change is affordable and sustainable.

We are committed to go beyond

Corporate Social Responsibility, that is: we create social value besides economic value. Respect for the rights of workers and the environment, transparency towards customers, close
links with the production communities, ethical consistence with each and every step of the cycle, constitute the identity card of this project which has the ambition to represent an innovative model of trade relations.

This is The Utopian Dandelion Project, born from the friendship and experience of four dreamers who want to change the ocean one drop at a time.

The Utopian Dandelion Project’s sense of CSR

We consider Corporate Social Responsibility as an on-going process of awareness that needs to be coherent at all stages and in any relationship engaged by the company: suppliers,
local communities, customers, local environment, the world community in a broader sense. And, last, the company itself.

We are committed to a 360° long-term CSR, that is to create social value besides economic value:

1)

Suppliers. The suppliers of our products are the first beneficiaries:

a)

we pay them a fair price, that is the price they ask, and we work on the basis of long term agreements which ensure them economic stability;

b)

we support their courageous choice to respect labour laws, thus paving the way to promote even better working conditions than existing local standards.

2)

Customers. Customers’ engagement is not just a strategy, but a priority goal:

a)

we want our customers to have a real bond with the producers’ communities, knowing their stories and being really informed and aware of what they are buying (raw material, production process,..) by providing them updated and detailed information through our website and social media;

b)

each product is provided with a transparent label, to explain how the cost are structured and who, and in what percentage, benefit from it;

3)

Environment. “Making the planet great again” is a key mission for us:

we work with communities that are in full contact with their environment and we encourage them to be even more innovative than their local environmental laws, so to be identified as sustainability leaders of their region. To do this, we provide them with a 10-point handbook to help them and the reference community to be more environmental friendly; also we do our best to minimize the environmental impact of the production by introducing small innovations in the production process, from cradle to grave (including packaging).

None of our products are tested on animals. and non animal fat is used.

4)

The community at large. We feel part of a global world, and we want to do our part to make it a better place:

a)

a percentage of our profits is devoted to community development projects in Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Malawi and Pakistan, supported by our social partner, the Fondazione Cariello Corbino, an Italian charity. It’s through the FCC projects that the four company founders met and started collaborating and conceiving another way to support the projects’ communities;

b)

we think that coherence with the above mentioned values should be a fundamental part of the company DNA. Therefore we have chosen to open our bank account in an Institute that shares our values of social justice, and we will align our future strategic and operational choices with these values.

5)

The company. It is currently managed only by the partners, with occasional help from family and friends. But, even when it becomes as big as we wish, we would like to stay efficient without falling into the vortex of hyper-efficiency due to unbridled consumerism, “to get stuff here and now”. The business we dream of requires human ways and times. Finally. We are convinced that, today more than ever, the world needs new business models to face an unprecedented social and environmental crisis. TheUtopianDandelionProject is our small perfectible contribution to find a smooth way out.
